About Carlos Ayala

Dr. Carlos Ayala is a double board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon and is board-eligible in sleep medicine. He grew up in the Bronx, joined the U.S. military after high school, and rose from Navy nurse corps officer to chief otolaryngologist and lieutenant colonel in the Air Force before retiring in 2013 after more than two decades of service. While deployed to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan he was the only facial plastic surgeon in the country treating soldiers and civilians with severe facial trauma. He is the first double board-certified otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon in the Rio Grande Valley, helped establish the UTRGV medical school, and served as Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery there. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and performs rhinoplasty, sinus surgery, blepharoplasty, otoplasty, nasal reconstruction and skin cancer removal.
