About Richard Esquivel

Dr. Richard Esquivel is the sole clinician and founder of Bay Area Functional Medicine, with clinics in Milpitas and Oakland, California. He has treated patients with chronic health conditions since 2002 and opened the original San Jose Functional Medicine clinic in 2009, adding an Oakland clinic in 2021. He holds a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States, a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine from South Baylo University, a Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University, and a BA in Philosophy from UC Berkeley. He is a Licensed Acupuncturist through the California Acupuncture Board and a Diplomate of the National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics, with extensive training in functional blood chemistry, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and functional endocrinology and immunology.
