About Luke Schulte-Ovalle
Luke Schulte-Ovalle is the functional psychologist at Root Causes Medical Clinic in San Antonio, Texas, contributing emotional and spiritual support strategies to members' care plans. His career in emergency and prehospital medicine began in 1998 and has spanned search and rescue and community preparedness work with local and regional fire departments. He has worked in national disaster response with federal agencies and the American Red Cross, and internationally with the Defense Institute for Medical Operations and the International Trauma Life Support Program. His work with EMS crews and domestic flight crews in the Baltimore and Washington DC metro area before and after 9/11 reinforced his conviction that mental health care for first responders should be proactive rather than reactive. He studied clinical psychology and human behavior at American Military University and completed his studies at the University of Maryland.
