About Julia Buchkina

Julia Buchkina, MD, MPH is the physician at Upstream Functional Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. She completed medical school in 2008 and a family medicine residency in 2012, both at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and received her functional medicine certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine in 2014. She is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, and she is additionally a Bredesen Protocol Certified Practitioner and a Wahls Protocol Certified Practitioner. She uses a comprehensive, patient-centered, evidence-based approach to identify and address the root causes of chronic disease, with food as medicine as the stated foundation of her practice alongside selective use of prescription medications, vitamins, herbs and other nutraceuticals. She sees patients in the Iowa City office and by telemedicine for Iowa residents, and curated the practice's Healing Room detoxification services.
