Received his Bachelor Degree in Biology from the University of Illinois. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Illinois. His internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were completed at the University of Illinois Hospital and Clinics, Humana-Michael Reese Medical Center, West Side Veteran’s Administration Hospital and Cook County Hospital. Dr. Cherny has performed volunteer surgery in Mexico on congenitally deformed children. He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and a fellow in the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Cherny is a member of the Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is certified by the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and as an instructor in Basic Life Support. Dr. Cherny is the former chairman of the department of Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surger
