About Stephen Owens
Dr. Stephen Owens is a board-certified ophthalmologist and the area's only board-certified, fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. He performs selective laser trabeculoplasty, laser peripheral iridotomy, filtration surgery, EX-PRESS Mini Device surgery, and glaucoma shunt surgery, and also offers cataract surgery and treatment of ocular diseases. He grew up in Montgomery, graduated with honors from Huntingdon College with a chemistry degree, and attended medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham. He completed a medical internship at Baptist Hospitals in Birmingham, an ophthalmology residency at the UAB Eye Foundation Hospital, and a glaucoma fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has been in private practice for almost 20 years.
