About Marianela Areces
Marianela Areces, MD is medical director and cardiologist at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Miami. She earned her MD with honors at graduation from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital, and completed fellowships in cardiology and advanced echocardiography at Washington University School of Medicine, where she is an assistant professor of medicine in the division of cardiology. She developed her focus on cardiovascular prevention during those fellowships and worked at Cleveland Clinic Florida before joining Pritikin. She has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in cardiovascular disease and has served as co-investigator on research into biomarkers for early diabetic cardiomyopathy and the effects of weight loss on myocardial structure and metabolism.
