About Lourdes Garcia
M. Lourdes Garcia, MD, PhD is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of ocular disorders. She has more than 20 years of experience in ophthalmology and is trained in advanced cataract surgical techniques including premium intraocular implants and newer glaucoma control procedures. She received a PhD in Vision Sciences from the University of Valladolid in Spain, completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received the Stocker award, and completed fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Genetic Eye Disorders at the Cleveland Clinic. She has been recognized for 10 years of service as an assistant professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is fluent in English and Spanish and helps the underserved through the Chesapeake Free Clinic.
