About Harriet Hansell

Harriet Hansell, MD is the founder of The Hansell Center for Functional Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, and practices both functional medicine and medical acupuncture. She earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2003 and completed her family medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center, serving as chief resident in 2006. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, and holds a physician medical acupuncture certification from the UCLA Helms Institute. She helped start the medical acupuncture clinic at Duke Family Medicine, built the first integrated acupuncture program at a UNC Raleigh clinic, and completed peptide training in 2020. She was an assistant consulting professor in Duke University School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health from 2011 to 2022.
