About David W. Chia

David W. Chia, MD, FACS is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Irvine Eye Physicians and Surgeons in Irvine, California, which he joined in 2006. He earned his undergraduate degree at Rice University, his medical degree at Penn State College of Medicine and an MBA at the UC Irvine Merage School of Business, completed a transitional internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital, and finished his ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he was chief resident. He performs hundreds of operations a year including cataract, refractive, eyelid and cosmetic surgeries. He is a volunteer clinical instructor of surgery in ophthalmology at UC Irvine and is on staff at Hoag Presbyterian. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and of the American College of Surgeons, served on the board of the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology from 2014 to 2023 and was its president in 2022-2023, and is fluent in Mandarin and Spanish.
