About David J. Kouba

David J. Kouba, MD, PhD is the founder of Kouba Dermatology, an independent seven-office dermatology practice in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan that he established in 2026 after practicing with the Toledo Clinic from 2008. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery. He studied molecular and cell biology at Haverford College before earning both his MD and a PhD in biochemistry at Jefferson Medical College, and completed his dermatology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2004. He then served as assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland and completed subspecialty fellowship training in Mohs surgery and cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles. He was previously Mohs surgeon and Chief of Cosmetic Dermasurgery at Henry Ford Health System and is an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Wayne State Medical School, with more than fifty peer-reviewed articles and book chapters to his name. He performs facial plastic reconstruction himself, usually the same day as Mohs surgery, and runs the practice's Mohs fellowship.
