About Barbara Johnson

Barbara Johnson, MD is the founder and medical director of The Johnson Center. Functional Health & Longevity, which operates in Virginia Beach and Blacksburg, Virginia. She spent more than three decades in medicine, including years as a general and trauma surgeon, before moving into functional medicine. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 45, she spent the following two decades developing what became the Cellular Intelligence Protocol, the clinical framework now used at the practice. She holds a fellowship in cellular and longevity medicine and spent 20 years as a surgeon and functional medicine physician before founding the centre, where she now serves as physician, medical director and clinical architect.
