He graduated with honors, receiving the American Academy of Periodontology Dental Student Award, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists Dental Predoctoral Achievement Award, and the Quintessence Award for student research. His residency in periodontics was completed in 2011 at the Medical University of South Carolina located in Charleston where he served as chief resident. His program included training in advanced periodontal therapy, bone grafting, implant therapy, and IV sedation.
