Dr. Michael grew up in Augusta, GA watching his father work as an orthopedic surgeon. Being immersed in medicine, Dr. Michael quickly discovered that he wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. However, his father’s colleagues recommended that he study dentistry instead. He attended the University of South Carolina where he completed his undergraduate degree in sociology and minored in chemistry.
