I began navigating the complexities of conventional medicine at just 11 years old, facing a variety of health challenges. Too often, I felt unheard and frustrated by the limited and dismissive care I received during my teens and 20s, particularly in women’s health. Responses like, “You’ll grow out of it—it’s just growing pains,” “We’re not sure why you have IBS; let’s try an antidepressant,” or “Pain during sex is normal at your age—it should improve,” left me feeling lost. The most disheartening was, “You may struggle to have children, and birth control might be your best option for regulating periods.” These experiences left me feeling hopeless about my health and uncertain about my future. However, I refused to settle. I took matters into my own hands, diving into research and self-advocacy.
